Metallurgical Test Work Underway on Yellowjacket Zone

CALGARY, ALBERTA - Prize Mining Corporation ("Prize") is pleased to announce the that it has begun metallurgical and mineralogical test work on drill core samples from the Yellowjacket Zone of its Atlin Gold Property located in northwestern British Columbia. This test work will provide information required prior to processing the 10,000 tonne bulk sample being extracted this fall (see News Release dated June 27, 2006). G&T Metallurgical Services Ltd. of Kamloops, BC has been contracted to conduct the metallurgical and mineralogical work.

Three 45 metre HQ size diamond drill holes (MET-1 to 3) were put in near the centre of the proposed bulk sample micro-pit to utilize for metallurgical purposes. For each hole, the drill core was cut and one half of the core shipped to ACME Analytical Laboratory in Vancouver for gold assays. The second half of drill holes MET-2 and MET-3 were shipped to G&T Metallurgical Services for processing. The second half of drill hole MET-1 has been retained to test in the pilot processing plant once it is on site.

Significant gold assay results from the three metallurgical drill holes are as follows:

The primary objectives of the metallurgical and mineralogical program are:
  • Measure the fragmentation characteristics of the gold and sulphides in process feed.
  • Investigate gravity, flotation and cyanidation as processes to recover gold.
  • Determine ore hardness using standard Bond ball mill procedures.
The program will provide a preliminary assessment of metallurgical response using standardized tests.

To achieve the objectives G&T Metallurgical Services is conducting the following scope of work:
  • Upon receipt, the drill core samples were stage crushed to pass 2mm in preparation for metallurgical testing. The samples are being homogenized into a two composites and will be rotary split into one-kilogram charges. To ensure that the charges are protected from oxidation, individual charges will be sealed, in appropriate sample bags, under nitrogen and stored in a freezer.
  • A standard Bond ball mill work index determination will be performed on each composite sample.
  • Duplicate head samples will be removed and assayed for Fe, S, C and Au.
  • Grind calibrations will be performed on the samples to target a nominal 200µm K80.
  • A thorough understanding of gold deportment prior to the commencement of the flotation testing is strongly recommended. Therefore a detailed gold deportment study by particle size range and particle specific gravity will be conducted. These fractions will be searched using G&T's Automated Digital Imaging System (ADIS) to locate and record gold occurrence data.
  • Up to ten Knelson separation tests will be done to assess gravity gold recovery methods.
  • If necessary, flotation testing will commence with rougher tests. Ten tests to investigate various flotation variables have been budgeted.
  • Also, if necessary, six bottle roll CN leach tests are budgeted.
  • All flotation test products will be assayed for Fe, S, C and Au. An allowance for particle size analysis of concentrate products has been included.
Due to the coarse free gold mineralization observed in drill core samples from the Yellowjacket Zone, it is anticipated that much of the gold mineralization can be extracted using standard gravity methods. The above mentioned budgeted flotation variables and CN leach tests will only be run if gravity separation methods do not produce high enough gold recoveries.

Results of the metallurgical and mineralogical test work are expected in about 4 weeks.
