Commingled Storage

Definition

Commingled storage is an arrangement where your metals are pooled with other investors' holdings of the same type and purity. You own a specific quantity of metal, but not specific individual pieces. When you take a distribution, you receive equivalent metals — same type, weight, and purity — but not necessarily the exact items you originally bought. Commingled storage is less expensive than segregated storage.

Why It Matters for Gold IRA Investors

Commingled storage is the more affordable option at most depositories. For investors focused on the metal's value rather than specific serial numbers, it provides the same investment exposure at a lower annual cost.
